We are Ocean is an inclusive, active and growing collective of people and organisations who have come together to increase ocean literacy in the UK and beyond.
In accelerating Ocean Literacy we will live in a society that understands the importance of the ocean to humankind, can talk about the ocean in a meaningful way and are able to make informed and responsible decisions regarding the ocean and it’s resources.
While individually we are all change makers, delivering impactful initiatives independently - the collective finds ways to collude and to collaborate with a highly supportive ethos; dropping the egos and focusing us all on our common task -- raising ocean literacy!
Artists, sports people, communicators, scientists, teachers, economists, lawyers... On the understanding that you have a strong connection to the ocean and want to use your skills to find ways to accelerate ocean literacy.Â
We want you to be there if you have a collaborative mindset and the freedom to be part of an ambitious, innovative, motivated network that reaches beyond the usual suspects without the usual rules!
Don’t expect a traditional workshop atmosphere. Come in your beach clothes, but be prepared to work to deliver a forward looking strategy, building on some of the starting points we have established, and will share with you.Â
Â
We are pleased to be able to offer some support for travel costs for delegates on application. Please indicate on the registration form if you would need this to attend.
Â
The day itself will start with where the collective is currently, hear from a lot of you on your efforts, and then look for ways to both collude on initiatives underway, and build out new opportunities for the future.Â
Â
We want to accelerate ocean literacy by leveraging all of our strengths towards the same goal, even though we will all have different audiences and approaches. We all live in the same system, and need to find the ways to collaborate to make the best of each other.
We also welcome those who are arriving the evening before the summit (27th November) to join us for an informal get-together. We will be at  The Waterfront Pub in Plymouth from 6pm, so we can get to know each other a bit better over some casual dinner and a drink. Food and drink will not be provided for this.
Â
For those that wish to stay on after the summit, the National Marine Aquarium have also kindly offered free entry to the aquarium on the 29th November.
Â
We will send more information on this following registration.
